The Brothers Who Conquered FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey

2 min read

Iñaki Williams raced back home to Spain from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, touching down in Bilbao early in the morning before sending Athletic Club through into the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey with an extra-time goal against FC Barcelona late at night on the same day.

The striker and his country were eliminated from the AFCON tournament on Monday, January 22. But despite being knocked out, Iñaki Williams still made sure to show up for his team on Wednesday night and help Bilbao overpower Xavi’s men.

And he did just that by scoring the fourth go-ahead goal of the night just before the end of the first half of extra-time.

It was insane to see as Iñaki Williams, who flew from West Africa and arrived on the same day of the fixture, was the one that gave Bilbao the sense of victory and security.

But what made this moment even more special was that he had a little bit of help from his younger brother, Nico Williams, in finalizing the match and taking down the visiting Barça by putting the nail in the coffin with a top class trivela finish towards the top left corner.

A minute later, the match would end with Athletic Club claiming the 4-2 victory and eliminating Barcelona from the Copa del Rey thanks to one goal-and-assist performances from the William’s brothers, who came and conquered the Spanish giant together!
