MD-1: Ancelotti “Rüdiger will play tomorrow [against Girona] if he’s fit”

2 min read

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke ahead of tomorrow’s matchup against LaLiga’s second place Girona FC in the team’s MD-1 press conference at Ciudad Deportiva del Real Madrid this morning.

During the round of questions made by the different media members, Ancelotti made sure to clear up the air of Antonio Rüdiger’s availability for tomorrow’s fixture after news broke of the centre back suffering a minor injury.

“[Antonio] Rüdiger has trained today for the first time. He had a good session and obviously tomorrow, we’ll have time to evaluate him to see if he’s fit to play. If he is not fit enough, he will not play as we don’t want to put the player at risk.”

Despite the uncertainties, Ancelotti seemed positive on his return as Rüdiger has trained for two days straight with no issue. If the German defender was to get the green light, we will most likely see him pair up with Aurélien Tchouaméni in the backline as Nacho Fernández was recently ruled out of the match, while David Alba and Éder Militão are still out with injuries.

Vini Jr is Confirmed to Make an Appearance

Lucky, Ancelotti confirmed this morning that Vinicius Junior “is ready to play” as the Brazilian superstar has been dealing with a neck problem so far this week in training.

Nacho Out

Unfortunately, Nacho will not play in tomorrow’s fixture but he will focus on making a return for the team’s Round of 16 Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.

The Squad for Tomorrow

Real Madrid’s and Girona’s Standings

At the moment, both Clubs are in the top two positions with Girona in second, trailing Los Blancos by two points. The league leaders Real Madrid will enter this matchup after winning four and drawing one in it’s last five LaLiga fixtures, with the team’s latest victory being a 0-2 win at Getafe. Girona, meanwhile, will visit Madrid following two draws and three wins in their last five LaLiga matches.

Tomorrow’s matchday 24 fixture against Girona will be played at home at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium at 6:30 CET.
